“I…I think…ummm, errr…” — there was a languid pause. The voice of a 7^th grader was breaking off as she stood shaking in front of the mic. All of a sudden her mind went completely blank as she stared at the chit of paper that had her impromptu topic written on it — “Sharing is Caring”. It was her first extempore competition and the entire school watched. They watched her with eyes of contemplation and anticipation, she had never failed them or anyone or herself when it came to speeches and debates. Because she had a natural way with words, she had been voted by the class for this one too. She did not see this coming. The crowd was bigger than ever — is that why she had zoned out? But she never faced stage fright before — the stage was a friendly zone for her. Then what made her so nervous, so conscious? She turned around to see if he was still standing there and he was. He was in 10^th, strongly built and bore a charismatic personality, the way she imagined college students to be. He was smart, oh-so-smart! A smooth talker, proficient in world affairs and told people EXACTLY what he thought about them — and yes, she couldn’t believe she had a crush on him!! His confident, placid demeanor drew her to him like a moth to the flame. She was worried about being judged, for every word that came out of her mouth! What if he passed a derisive comment before the other seniors? Worse, what if he did not like her after this? A million absurd things ran through her little head as she tried to collect some cool, impressive words to speak. Her best friend played the moderator of the event. She quickly spotted her unease and stepped forward pretending to adjust the mic. With one hand she pressed her arm and whispered into her ear: “you know you are the best!” And just like that, the freeze was over. And it struck her how beautifully they shared a moment which showed how much she was cared for. The next thing she knew, words were flowing out of her pretty mouth and once she was done with the speech, she wasn’t really done — to add that extra spark that she was so famous for, she called her friend back on stage and sang a song together for the enthusiastic audience, their laughing faces and clapping hands helping with the rhythm of “Main Koi Aisa Geet Gayoon…” That was definitely a winning moment for her as she stepped out of the arena without even waiting to hear the winner’s name.

Handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers.
