Every evening, on her way back from work, she walked by a store with a beautiful window display. The display’s centerpiece was a sparkling stone bracelet. She often wondered what it would feel like to wear that bracelet. She was certain that she’d feel more beautiful the moment it touched her wrist. She promised herself that, one day, she would buy the same piece for herself. It took her several months but she held on to that promise until she could fulfil it. Finally, one morning, she walked into the store and asked to try on the bracelet. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she thought about how much more valuable this bracelet was than the numbers on its price tag – she’d pushed herself to take up extra assignments at work, shoulder larger roles and responsibilities, and break the glass ceiling. As she looked into the mirror, she could see the actual diamond looking right back at her.
